While practising acupuncture, I have sometimes been approached by patients looking for answers that acupuncture cannot give. Although such conditions as insomnia, stress and smoking do respond to acupuncture in some people, others are not so receptive. I felt that I should be able to offer an alternative.
In March 2004 I completed a Medical Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis.
The word ‘hypnosis’ may conjure up the image of the stage hypnotist and his ‘victim’, but, in the hands of a responsible clinician, hypnosis is a powerful therapeutic tool. Hypnosis is a natural state, which all of us are able to achieve with practice. The therapist merely teaches the technique and gently helps the patient to recognise and deal with the problems and release all sorts of hidden potential.
I have found this to be a very rewarding part of my work. Conditions which are suitable for treatment include: panic attacks, anxiety, stress, exam nerves, nail biting, phobias, weight problems, low self esteem. It can also be used for some physical disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome.
